Who Bali suits
Bali is an island-wide decision, not one housing market. A Canggu house, an Ubud house and a southern coastal house lead to different working days, transport needs and social circles. Pick a base first, then compare rooms within a practical radius.
A short trial stay is often the clearest way to test an area before agreeing to several months. That gives you time to see the street, the real connection quality and the house rhythm at the hours you will live there. A glossy pool photo cannot answer those questions.
How to compare areas
Canggu and nearby coastal areas can work when cafés, surf and an active remote-work scene are central to your routine. Ask how long it takes from the exact address to the places you will use, especially during busy periods.
Ubud offers an inland routine around arts, greenery and wellness. Its centre and quieter outskirts are different propositions: compare access to groceries, a practical work spot and the activities you expect to do regularly. If you want both coast and inland, two shorter stays can be more sensible than a daily crossing.
Test an ordinary working week
Plan for how you will move with luggage on arrival and for ordinary weekly errands. Avoid assuming that a route which looks short is a pleasant walk or a predictable ride. Your travel plan should fit your comfort and local conditions.
Ask for a recent internet test in the room, not just a property-wide claim. Confirm whether your video-call hours clash with events, music or maintenance. Check cooling, water, electricity and cleaning arrangements in writing.
What to confirm before paying
Compare the all-in cost for your exact dates, including any seasonal change, utilities, deposit, cleaning and cancellation terms. Ask whether the room shown is the room you will occupy, and what happens if it is unavailable at arrival.
Entry and stay rules can change and depend on nationality and purpose. Verify those separately with the appropriate official authority before making a non-refundable housing commitment.
